How to Change Electronic KTP Data (E-KTP)

E-KTP is the official identity of a resident as proof of self-issued by the implementing agency, valid throughout the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The validity or correctness of personal data is important. With valid data, someone can be helped when taking care of something, especially related to public services.

Likewise with the data contained in the Electronic Identity Card (e-KTP). E-KTP is the official identity of a resident as proof of self-issued by the implementing agency, valid throughout the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

This card must be owned by Indonesian citizens (WNI) and foreign citizens (WNA) who have a permanent residence permit (ITAP) and are 17 years old or have previously been married or have been married.

By Law Number 24 of 2013 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2006 concerning Population Administration, Article 64 paragraph 7 states that electronic KTPs for Indonesian citizens are valid for life, no longer five years as in the previous regulation.

Therefore, if you want to change or find errors in the data on your KTP, it is better to fix it immediately because making a KTP is only done once unless it is lost/damaged. Based on Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24 of 2013 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2006 concerning Population Administration Article 64 paragraph (8), it is stated that if data elements change, are damaged, or are lost, residents who have electronic KTPs are obliged to report to the implementing agency for changes or replacements.

Furthermore, in paragraph 9, it is stated that residents who own e-KTPs are required to report to the implementing agency via the sub-district head or village head/village head no later than 14 (fourteen) days and complete a statement as to the cause of damage or loss.

In practice, when making an e-KTP, someone records their retina and fingerprints at the relevant agency. Therefore, changing e-KTP data is not the same as creating an e-KTP. You don't need to re-record.

In e-KTP data, some data is static (does not change), such as Population Identification Number and date of birth. However, some are dynamic (can change), such as marital status and domicile.

How to Manage Changes to E-KTP Data

Basically, when you want to process changes to your e-KTP data, you have to prepare supporting documents, such as your e-KTP, family card, marriage certificate, birth certificate, diploma, and so on.

The following is how to process changes to your e-KTP:

Coming to the Population and Civil Registration Service (Dukcapil), several areas can already be managed at the sub-district level, where you live.

1. Prepare the necessary documents according to the data to be changed, such as:

 • Marriage certificate/court decision to change marital status

• RT/RW certificate to change domicile address. It can be managed up to the sub-district level.

• Diploma, if you want to add a degree

• Certificate from the agency to change employment status

• Birth certificate

• Photocopy of a copy of the statement from the religious leader to change the religious data if there are differences in the data.

2. Submit the necessary requirements to the officer at the Dukcapil Service or at the sub-district.

3. The Dukcapil Service or sub-district officer will provide a receipt for collecting the finished e-KTP.

4. Wait 14 working days to collect your new e-KTP.

5. Bring your old e-KTP and KK to collect the new e-KTP according to the specified schedule.
