Super Garuda Shield 2023 CALFEX

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Infantry Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division conduct a Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX) during Super Garuda Shield 2023, at 5th Marine Training Center (Puslatpur), Situbondo Regency, East Java, Indonesia, Sep. 6, 2023. Super Garuda Shield 2023 is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS 2023 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the 7 participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific. 



The 2023 Super Garuda Shield officially started on August 31 with an opening ceremony held in East Java which was attended by senior military leaders from the United States and Indonesia. This year's exercise is the second year of the Super Garuda Shield exercise series which is a development of the Garuda Shield exchange program which was first held in 2019, and this time brought together seven participating countries and 12 observer countries in a multilateral joint exercise.



Over the past 10 years, Hawaii National Guard troops and air force servicemen and women have exchanged extensive knowledge of military planning with the TNI, thanks to years of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts through the State Partnership Program (SPP). The Hawaii National Guard has brought a broad spectrum of experience in recent years and has created “J-Staffs” to respond to recent real domestic operations to deal with disasters such as volcanic eruptions, floods, and currently, Wildfire Response in Lahaina Forest in Hawaii.
